Right product, right place, right time, at lowest cost

The Pharmaceutical / Health & Beauty supply chain is complex and has many challenges and opportunities, which makes it a very interesting and challenging sector in which to work.

Planning ability, analytical and problem solving skills, and the ability to deal with a variety of internal and external customers, are the essential requirements of a role in Central Operations.

A good sense of humour also helps!

The Central Operations department

Based at our Head Office the Supply Chain and Operations Services departments provide essential services to our business:

Supply Chain

The supply chain team based at Chessington Head office are collectively responsible for Ethical, Surgical, and Counter category stock replenishment.

The team also manages:

  • Goods In scheduling
  • Customer stock rationing of high demand lines
  • Finished Goods inventory budgeting and re-forecasting
  • Supply chain analysis and reporting of service and stock levels

The nature of the supply chain role is constantly evolving, as the business rolls out new supplier contracts.

Delivering great customer service and innovative supply chain solutions are what motivates our team on a day to day basis.

Operations Services

The Operations Services Department is engaged in all activities which could be considered to be over and above usual day to day operational activities.

  • The Operational Interface team ensure our upstream manufacturer clients and internal customers, such as Boots, are delighted with our service by proactively monitoring performance and developing innovative solutions to their needs.
  • The Programme Delivery team use their industry experience and project management skills to deliver sophisticated technical solutions to the demands of a growing business operating in an ever changing market.
  • With one of the largest retail fleets in the UK providing a twice daily service to over 16,000 delivery points our Central Fleet Management team ensure we are well placed to honour our service commitments by providing technical expertise on optimum vehicle routing, procurement and enabling technologies such as telematics.

Working together the team thrives on finding and implementing the appropriate solution to the latest challenge - whatever that may be!

"I have worked in various areas of the business from Supply Chain to the Buying Department. No one day is the same as the next!"

I have worked for Alliance Healthcare since 1999. I started working in the warehouse where I had several jobs before I moved my way up and over to our Head Office where I have worked in various areas of the business from Supply Chain to the Buying Department.

I currently work for our Fleet and Transport department keeping our vans and cars legal and on the road. The job is very varied and no one day is the same as the next. The work can be hard at times but with a team as supportive and helpful as our fleet team there is no job too big or difficult and can always be achieved with a smile and a laugh.

I enjoy working for Alliance Healthcare because of the people, they make it feel like one big family and we all get on so well and are able to all work as one big team instead of several small teams - it really makes coming to work more enjoyable.

"I met many people passionate about what they did, which encouraged me to achieve more."

I started working for Alliance Healthcare when I was a student 17 years ago working weekends involved in all aspects of warehouse operations.

I could see the opportunities on offer and met many people passionate about what they did, which encouraged me to achieve more.

I have been lucky to work in different areas and be involved in projects, which has given me great exposure within Alliance Boots. I am currently Supply Chain Services Manager with a team of 6 people managing inbound deliveries into 10 UK Service Centres, service level reporting for customers and manufacturers and customer outbound supply policies.

"There are always fresh challenges for those willing to take them up"

I joined Alliance Healthcare in 1994 to set up and manage a new central purchasing function.

Since then I have had line management responsibility for a variety of areas but more recently have programme managed a number of projects; ranging from specifying requirements for new IT systems for the Group, to setting up a new warehouse and more recently a major logistics integration project with Boots. Am I bored after 17 years in the company? Most definitely not! It's by far the most dynamic and entrepreneurial company that I have worked in. There are always fresh challenges for those willing to take them up and plenty of opportunities to make a personal contribution to the growth of the company.
